Technology Commercialization Assistance for a University
A large university was considering a license and financial support for a faculty/grad student group that had developed a business plan for commercializing university-owned CT imaging technology. Aware of our extensive experience in medical imaging, the university tech transfer office contracted with Anson Group to review the plan and assist the group in optimizing it. Anson assisted by:
- Conducting a review that revealed serious deficiencies in the target market data and assumptions, and concerns regarding the distribution and regulatory compliance strategies
- Guiding the group in conducting further market analysis and identifying a new target market for which the technology was better suited and that would present few barriers to entry
- Identifying potential distribution partners that could provide access to the new market
- Instructing the group on the regulatory compliance environment that would apply to the product and assisting them in revising the plan to address it
A more realistic business plan enabled the university to make better decisions on allocation of resources to this enterprise and the entrepreneur group to better assess what resources they would need from other sources.
